Moana JR. Cast Announcement
Thank you for your patience while we prepared to release the cast list for Moana, JR. We are thrilled to share your excitement for this incredible production!
We extend our deepest gratitude to our audition panel members, who generously donated their time and expertise.
Our professional Los Angeles, New York City, and Atlanta casting directors and educational theatre casting directors have worked tirelessly throughout auditions and callbacks, ensuring thoughtful and thorough casting decisions.
The audition adjudication panel carefully reviewed extensive notes from three days of callbacks and every actor’s audition forms, considering scheduling conflicts and special skills. We appreciate your understanding of the time and effort required to create a cast list that allows every performer to shine and contribute to a successful, beautiful show.
Moana JR. is a vibrant musical that depends on the strength of the ensemble to bring Motunui's heart to life. This production features breathtaking harmonies, hilarious and heartfelt scenes, and all styles of choreography, from lyrical to jazz to Polynesian traditional dance and Hakas! Every cast member has multiple opportunities to shine, and every role is essential to the show’s success!
Important Notes About Casting and Rehearsals
Several featured roles, ensembles, soloists, dancers, and understudies have yet to be cast. These decisions will be made during rehearsals based on your work ethic, ability to take direction, and demonstration of character through movement and voice.
Please trust that you will learn more about your part at rehearsals, and DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE IT!—We have cast it to allow everyone to have substantial stage time to shine. There is more than what meets the eye on the page of the script books!
Cast members will be assigned to show dates over the next eight weeks of rehearsals.
Rehearsals will move quickly. Please treat your time seriously, come prepared, and learn your music as soon as possible after we teach the songs to you. Study hall rooms will be available for homework during rehearsals.
Cast List and Next Steps
The cast list is posted alphabetically by role and by actor playing the role, rather than by showtime or day.
The middle school cast will have their next rehearsal on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. in the LS Theatre. Please note this is a time and location change due to spirit night for Basketball being moved to January. You are excused from this rehearsal if you have a pre-noted conflict, such as a basketball game or Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring.
Additional Guidance
Auditions can bring a range of emotions.
We encourage everyone—caregivers and students—to reread the How to Handle Disappointment letter previously shared via email and posted on the blog.
Caregivers are welcome to help their children prepare their thoughts should they wish to schedule a meeting after Thanksgiving to receive feedback from their auditions/callbacks, but we ask that communication come directly from the students. This is a valuable opportunity to practice self-advocacy and navigate challenging conversations.
Caregivers with questions about casting decisions should reach out directly to Mr. Frank.
Final Thoughts
Musical theatre is about collaboration, creativity, and community. Each of you is a vital part of this production, and we are so excited to embark on this journey together. Remember Stanislavsky’s wisdom: “Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art.”
We are incredibly proud of every student who auditioned. Your courage, passion, and joy were remarkable, and this show will be extraordinary because of the unique talents you bring to the stage. Remember, every role is equally good, and each contributes to the story and the show's success.
Thank you for trusting us to guide you through this process. Together, we look forward to creating an unforgettable production of Moana Jr.
